Fill Ground Holes and Yard Voids Yellowjackets often move into abandoned rodent holes or gaps in the soil. Filling these spaces makes your yard less appealing for nesting.
Block Entry Points Around Your Home Wasps look for sheltered, quiet places to build their nests. So caulk small cracks in your siding, around window and door frames.
Repair torn window screens, and Install fine mesh screens over attic and crawlspace vents.
Fake Nests: Wasps are territorial and will avoid an existing nests. Decoy wasp nest can be easily be hung from the eves of your home.
Search Amazon for "decoy wasp nest" and you'll find inexpensive paper lantern styles to fancy woven or crochet nests.
Avoid Attractants: Wipe down tables and food areas regularly. Keep a tight lid on the garbage and avoid standing water. Perfumes and scented lotions are also good to avoid.
Check for Early Nest Activity A quick walk around your home once a week can prevent a full blown colony. Look under eaves, decks porch and patio cielings and all around the shed or detached garage.
Catching a nest early makes removal much easier and safer.
Set Up Traps: Place traps away from where you want to hang out. The corners of the back yard or on the side of the home where visitors rarely wander
are good locations for trapping these pests.
Choose the right Colors: Wasps are attracted to bright colors such as yellow, orange and red. Floral patterns and shiny fabrics should also be avoided.
Pastels and neutral colors are best. White, greys and beige are less attractive.
When Spending Time Outoors, Use Fans: Wasps will avoid strong air current and placing a fan near open doors or even outside seating areas.
Creating a breeze will discourage them from lingering.
